Georgia!
Some Saturday morning serenity!
I’ve always loved the sound of gospel-type piano playing. It’s distinctive, soulful and free! Gospel and blues have taught me how to play classical music with more personality.
From the beginning I was a good note reader. Maybe even a REALLY good note reader. I followed the “directions” and it all seemed right. But my playing didn’t move my body the way jazz, gospel and blues did. When I intuitively merged the two, I cam up with a better sound.
I have loved the song Georgia On My Mind since I heard Ray Charles sing it. Nobody could replicate that! It was just right, but the notes did not always fit conveniently into a strict beat. Somehow that doesn’t seem to matter. Ray could BRING IT!
I hope you enjoy a little Saturday morning crooning from me and my piano. Click here to listen.
